TAROT:  My First Time and My Thoughts Now

I LOVE my culture. My mom is from a small town in Jalisco, Mexico called El Chante and my dad from a bigger town called San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. Even though they both left over 2 decades ago, our Mexican culture and heritage has always been strong in our upbringing..especially the religious part.

As most of you know, tarot reading is a MAJOR no-no in the Catholic church. I don’t know if they consider it a sin..but it’s definitely not encouraged. Not that we talked about it everyday, but growing up, my sisters and I knew we “weren’t supposed” to “mess” with that.

Fast forward to 2016 (age 31), I met my first tarot reader. I was hired to teach a yoga class at a birthday party and it turned out that a tarot reader was also there.

After my class concluded, the reader and I instantly hit it off. She was so nice, inviting and so greatly explained what is meant to get a tarot reading. She said that tarot is a way for our spirit guides to guide us through cards in any situation we seek. Whether we need clarity, direction, confirmation, tarot can be used as a TOOL.

After I heard her explain it, I was intrigued…and curious. She asked if I wanted a reading and because I felt comfortable with her, I agreed.

I was so nervous! I didn’t know what to expect. I can’t remember EXACTLY how the reading went, BUT I do remember it gave me insight to the situation I asked about. After this experience, I realized that sometimes the things we don't understand are the things we fear (especially when we’re trained to think they’re scary). There was nothing scary about having a tarot reading. It actually helped open my palette to the metaphysical world.

One thing I DID realize after a few years of getting readings, that free will and the interpretation of the reader may alter the message. Every reader has different intuitive abilities. Some are psychic, some aren’t (although many may claim to be). Some are mediums, some aren’t. Some can tap into your higher self, some may not. Hence why I always say to vet anyone you hire to make sure it’s what you’re paying for (trust me, I’ve made this mistake in the past). You just don’t want anyone to have access to your energy. Your energy is precious and sacred to you.

Tarot readings, as well as any other forecasting reading, are the POSSIBLE outcomes of situations. Like I mentioned before, readings are great if you need help getting clarity, seeing a different perspective, or need guidance.

Although I do believe getting a reading done by a qualified reader can be beneficial, readings shouldn’t dictate your life.

Instead of getting a weekly reading for a recurring issue, see if you can identify WHAT is the root cause of your situation. If you can't, perhaps this is when hiring a coach, mentor or therapist can benefit you. Many coaches in the alternative healing space may use additional tools, like tarot, hypnosis or akashic records, to assist you in your expansion. I am all about using alternative tools for growth.

If you have any questions or are in need of a reader and/or coach, email me! I can send you my personal recommendations. Remember that each reader/coach has their vibe and method. Some you may resonate and others you may not. My general rule of thumb is to follow them on socials for a while and see if you vibe with them!

Let me know how it goes!

Also, remember this is solely my opinion. With more life experience my opinion may change. I’m writing this to my younger self whenI wished I had some answers when I was too afraid to ask.
