From Annette Romo Yoga to ARY Retreats

After college, I landed a great job. Mind it was 2008, so perhaps I should rephrase and say: After college, by the grace of God, having a great college internship, and luck, I landed the most amazing job in an international surf company.

I started in the sales department and eventually, because of my ability to speak Spanish, my degree in Public Relations (PR), and drive to "get things done", I was promoted and offered a junior-level PR position in the marketing department assisting multiple brands and departments, including mens and womens fashion and professional athletes.

I landed a "dream job" as some would say. It was fun! I learned ALOT about corporate dynamics, the fashion world, surf, athlete management, travel, photoshoots, and brand management. It was great, BUT (there's always a but when things aren't aligned) something was missing.

It was in my late twenties when I started to question, "What next?" "Is this really it?"

It was then that I started to dream up the life I wanted in 5, 10 years. I wanted to be free. I wanted to LOVE my life. Create. Travel.

So, I did the craziest most liberating thing any 20-something-year-old would do (other than jumping off a plane which I did on my 23rd birthday), I quit my job. It wasn't impulsive, but definitely "crazy" in my book.

As an Aquarius Moon in my 8th House of Business & Finance, I am open to taking financial risks BUT need to feel that my financial situation is stable and secure. AKA I had a "plan" when I decided to quit.

The day I quit, I said yes to teaching high school Spanish. Random? Perhaps, but I was open to new experiences and felt that it was my time to learn as much as I could before choosing a "solid" path (solid is in quotes since I didn't know back then that no path is ever SOLID or straight).

During my time teaching I got licensed to sell health insurance (which I still do) and finally decided it was time to achieve my "one-day" dream- to become a certified yoga instructor.

Taking the Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) training was the best decision I made. Going through the process I was overjoyed of how much I was learning about my practice, myself and how I could make an impact by bringing what I was learning to a community.

I was so eager to teach that I secured a gig before completing my training and soon after 2 more. I was determined to have people experience what yoga meant for me: community & happiness.

Throughout my training and after, I decided that one day I would create a yoga event for women. It would be a beautiful day with beautiful scenery, delicious food, yoga (of course) and more fun activities for women to bond, relax, and have fun. In June of 2015 Girls Yoga Day (GYD) was born. It started in my sisters backyard and it has evolved to places in Temecula, Malibu and Joshua Tree, CA. GYD will continue to be an annual tradition to celebrate women.

Going Worldwide…

In 2017, I decided to take the GYD concept into international retreats. I wanted to create experiences worldwide that would allow like-minded guests to connect, exchange ideas, and create beautiful memories in beautiful places. In February 2018 I, along with my husband, hosted our first-ever retreat in Manzanillo, Mexico and called it ARY Retreats. Why ARY? Well, Annette Romo Yoga Retreats was too long and decided to shorten the name to ARY Retreats.

The retreat was the MOST thrilling experience I have ever had. I was in love with every part. The creation, the curating, the execution and most of all the long-lasting connections guests made with each other. I knew I found my niche.

From then on ARY Retreats has been in Tulum, Zihuatanejo, Valle de Guadalupe, Nayarit, and Saguaro National Park.

With each retreat, I refine and fine tune. I add, I subtract. I create.

I started as Annette Romo Yoga, a girl seeking to share the love and joy of yoga and blossomed into a strong Latina woman creating and curating beautiful, life-altering retreats and events for those seeking community, adventure and a f'n good time.
